🐛 Curly caterpillars

These letters ALL start with a curve, like a caterpillar curling up:

c a d g o q e s

Watch how every one of them starts: your pencil curls round. c is just the curl; a is the curl plus a stick; d is the curl plus a tall stick.

🪜 Long ladders

These letters all start by going straight down, like climbing down a ladder:

l i t u j y

Start at the top, pull down to the line. Then add anything else.

l is just the ladder. i is a short ladder with a dot. t is a ladder with a hat. j goes below the line and ends with a hook.

These letters start with a downward stroke and then push out an "arm" sideways:

r n m h b p k

Start at the top, go down, then push the arm out (or two arms — m has two).

b and p are special: they have a long stick AND a curve like a tummy. Tricky but they're cousins.

The last group — letters with diagonal lines:

v w x z f

v goes down-up. w is two v's. x is two lines that cross. z is a zigzag.

And f is the strangest letter of all — it has a curve at the top AND a cross-stroke. Practise it on its own!
