For the student — how to do this

This test asks you to think like a scientist. You'll work out what experiments show, predict what will happen if something changes, and explain WHY plants need each thing.

For parents and carers

The stretch plants assessment. Pushes into working scientifically at KS1 level: predicting outcomes of investigations, interpreting fair-test results, and explaining the why behind plant needs.

For teachers and tutors

Stretch test aligned to Y2 working-scientifically expectations within the plants topic. Question types: investigation prediction (4), interpreting evidence (3), why-plants-need (4), life-cycle deduction (2), unfamiliar context (2).

How to check the work

Auto-marked. Diagnostic: if errors cluster on "why" questions, the child has memorised facts but hasn't connected them — discuss the chains of cause and effect (no water → no transport in stem → leaves wilt → plant dies).
