About this resource
The stretch test for confident Year 2 pupils. Fifteen questions involving missing factors (□ × 5 = 30), scaling, two-step word problems, and reasoning across all three tables.

For the student — how to do this
This one is tougher! 15 questions that ask you to think, not just remember. Some have a missing number (like □ × 5 = 30 — what goes in the box?), and some have TWO steps.
If it takes a few attempts, that's normal. The explanations will help you see how to solve them.
For parents and carers
The stretch assessment for Year 2 pupils confident with basic recall. Pushes beyond direct fact retrieval into missing-factor problems (e.g. □ × 5 = 30), scaling ("if 3 × 5 = 15, what is 6 × 5?"), and two-step word problems.
Pass mark is 60% because the cognitive load is real. Greater-depth pupils should manage this; secure pupils may need 2–3 attempts; emerging pupils should master the Main Test first.
For teachers and tutors
Targets the higher levels of Bloom's taxonomy applied to KS1 multiplication: applying, analysing, evaluating. Question types: missing-factor problems (4), scaling/doubling within tables (3), two-step word problems (5), and reasoning without calculating (3).
Use as: enrichment for fast finishers; pre-Year-3 readiness check; greater-depth evidence for assessment moderation.
How to check the work
Auto-marked with worked explanations. For this test, process matters as much as outcome — ask your child to explain their thinking on the missing-factor questions. Multiple solution routes are valid (count up, use known facts, work backwards).
