Count in 2s: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
Count in 2s: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16
Two tens is twenty — easy!
Count in 5s: 5, 10, 15
Count in 5s: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30
Count in 5s: ..., 35, 40, 45. Or: 5 × 10 = 50, take away one 5.
Add a zero! Four with a zero = 40
Add a zero! Seven with a zero = 70
Ten tens make 100. The biggest KS1 number!
20 shared between 2 = 10 each
(Or: 2 × ? = 20)
Count up in 5s until you reach 35: that's 7 jumps.
Take the zero off! 80 → 8.

For the student — how to do this
You're going to flip through a deck of flash cards about mathematics. It should take about 10 minutes. Take your time — there's no rush. If you get stuck, ask a grown-up.
