This parent guide links the page examples with a structured study routine. The present resource is labelled Art & Design, Key Stage 1, Year 1, Year 2, Activity Book. Use that framework, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what successful work should reveal.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus jointly. Ask the learner to anticipate the knowledge, vocabulary or technique they may need. Scan each sample and recognise instruction words, amounts, clues, limits or less familiar terms. Agree a manageable time window, clear diversions and prepare appropriate materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an unaided initial attempt so the attempt reveals sound understanding and uncertainty. A short pause often strengthens remembering better than an same-session answer.
Make thinking shown
Invite the learner to summarise the task in their own words. They can underline essential information, divide a complex problem into smaller steps, sketch a representation, sort support, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their method fits and whether another plan could work. When movement stops, give a carefully scaled hint: repeat the goal, point towards a related example, narrow the choice, then model only the next step. Return control directly afterwards. Spoken reasoning highlights mistakes and practises accurate subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after honest effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, support, sequence, spelling or presentation where related. Ask the learner to find the initial point where their reasoning changed course. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a short account of the change. For a correct answer, ask for justification and one unaided check. This separates confident knowledge from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the core idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by altering a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one clear next step, perhaps reviewing terminology, repeating a calculation, adding support or improving clarity. Recheck that target afterwards in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than same-session repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and record answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
