Design & Make Project Book KS2
Design & Make Project Book KS2 is a five-mission KS2 Design & Technology activity book mapped to the DfE National Curriculum. Children learn the full design, make and evaluate process: writing design criteria for a purpose and user, applying mechanisms (levers, linkages, gears, pulleys and cams) to create movement, and making structures stronger, stiffer and more stable. Short knowledge checks are auto-marked on screen, then children design, build a prototype and evaluate their own product against their criteria. Includes teacher, parent and pupil notes and is fully SEND-friendly with high-contrast and large-text modes.

For the student โ how to do this
You're going to be a real product designer! Learn the three stages — design, make and evaluate — then meet the mechanisms that make things move and the tricks that make structures strong. Answer the quick knowledge checks on screen and I'll check them for you, then design, build and evaluate your very own product. There's no single right way to design — just plan carefully and test honestly!
For parents and carers
This is a KS2 Design & Technology activity book built around the real design, make and evaluate process. Your child writes design criteria, uses a mechanism or structure idea, builds a prototype and evaluates it. They will need a few simple materials (card, paper, split pins, string, glue, scissors) alongside the book — please supervise scissors and any cutting.
For teachers and tutors
A five-mission KS2 activity book covering the DfE Design & Technology programme of study: design (purpose, user, design criteria); make; evaluate; and technical knowledge — mechanisms (levers, linkages, gears, pulleys, cams) and structures (stronger, stiffer, more stable). Missions 1–3 include short auto-marked knowledge checks; Missions 4 and 5 are an open design-make-evaluate project. Suitable for guided or independent use.
How to check the work
The knowledge checks in Missions 1, 2 and 3 are marked together with the "Check my answers" button. The design, make and evaluate tasks in Missions 4 and 5 are open-ended and are not auto-marked — check them against the answer sheet notes and the child's finished prototype and evaluation.
