How to check the work
Ask the learner to show or explain one idea, then try a fresh example with suitable support. Note any prompts needed; retelling alone does not show secure understanding.

How to study with Edexcel GCSE Maths — Module 6: Statistics & probability
This parent guide relates the page examples with a practical study routine. The listed resource is labelled Mathematics, GCSE, Year 10, Year 11, E-Learning Module. Use that framework, the learning summary and published prompts to decide what firm work should demonstrate.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus together. Ask the learner to predict the understanding, terminology or technique they may need. Scan each sample and spot command words, values, clues, constraints or unfamiliar terms. Agree a realistic time window, reduce interruptions and gather appropriate tools such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an unaided opening attempt so the attempt shows firm understanding and gaps. A quiet pause often strengthens retrieval better than an same-session answer.
Make thinking published
Invite the learner to summarise the task in their own words. They can underline essential information, break a extended problem into smaller steps, make a show, sort details, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another strategy could work. When movement stops, provide a graduated hint: rephrase the goal, point towards a useful example, reduce the choice, then show only the next step. Return responsibility straight afterwards. Spoken reasoning highlights mistakes and practises correct subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with published answer guidance after genuine effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where useful. Ask the learner to identify the opening point where their reasoning changed direction. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a brief note of the improvement. For a correct answer, request support and one unaided check. This differentiates confident understanding from guessing while building accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the main idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by altering a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a similar question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps revisiting terminology, repeating a calculation, adding details or refining clarity. Recheck that target again in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than same-session repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and complete answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
Sample questions and answers
Try five questions from this exact activity. Review each authored answer and explanation, then note which ideas need another look. Compare the options and explain why the answer fits. Say the reasoning aloud or write a short justification before opening the interactive player to complete the activity and save progress.
