For the student — how to do this

Work through the teaching and activities, then take the check. Score 70% to earn the badge and unlock the next module — you can retake any time.

For parents and carers

Each module unlocks the next only when your child passes at 70%. A pass meets the threshold for this check. Use discussion and further practice to identify what needs revisiting.

For teachers and tutors

Gated revision sequence. Pass mark 70%; results and per-question review feed the heatmap.

How to check the work

Ask the learner to show or explain one idea, then try a fresh example with suitable support. Note any prompts needed; retelling alone does not show secure understanding.

How to study with EYFS Literacy & Phonics — Module 3: Blending to read

This parent guide relates the page examples with a practical study routine. The present resource is labelled Literacy, Early Years (EYFS), Reception, E-Learning Module. Use that framework, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what successful work should show.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to spot the knowledge, vocabulary or technique they may need. Scan each sample and spot command words, values, signals, conditions or unfamiliar terms. Agree a manageable time window, clear interruptions and collect appropriate materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an self-directed opening attempt so the attempt indicates sound understanding and uncertainty. A reflective pause often strengthens retrieval better than an immediate answer.

Make thinking shown

Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline necessary information, separate a larger problem into shorter steps, design a diagram, sort evidence, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another method could work. When work stops, offer a graduated hint: state again the goal, point towards a useful example, limit the choice, then model only the next step. Return control immediately afterwards. Spoken reasoning exposes mistakes and practises correct subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after genuine effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, evidence, sequence, spelling or presentation where useful. Ask the learner to locate the opening point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or new space, followed by a brief account of the correction. For a correct answer, ask for reasoning and one self-directed check. This differentiates secure knowledge from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the core idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a comparable question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps reviewing terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding evidence or developing clarity. Recheck that target again in the week because spaced review gives stronger information than immediate repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and make answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.

Sample questions and answers

Try five questions from this exact activity. Review each authored answer and explanation, then note which ideas need another look. Compare the options and explain why the answer fits. Say the reasoning aloud or write a short justification before opening the interactive player to complete the activity and save progress.
