Food & Nutrition KS3
Food & Nutrition KS3 is a five-mission Year 8 Design & Technology activity book mapped to the DfE National Curriculum for Food Preparation & Nutrition. Pupils use the Eatwell Guide to understand a balanced diet, explore the three macronutrients (carbohydrates for energy, protein for growth and repair, and fats for energy and warmth) and the micronutrients (vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, calcium and iron, plus fibre and water), and learn that food energy is measured in kilocalories. They then apply food hygiene and safety rules, compare cooking methods and consider seasonality and food miles before planning a balanced meal of their own. Knowledge checks are auto-marked on screen, the planning tasks are open, and the book includes teacher, parent and pupil notes with high-contrast and large-text SEND-friendly modes.
