About this resource and curriculum

Children chat through friendly picture-free scenarios — what a kind friend does, what to say when two of you want the same toy, how to wait for your go, kind words versus unkind words, and saying sorry and making up — then move into teddy role-play, a real turn-taking game and inventing their own kind rules for home. A handful of clearly-kindest-answer questions are checked on screen with instant, gentle feedback; everything else is talking, drawing and playing together, and the whole book prints with a full answer sheet. Completely non-judgemental with no pass-or-fail tone. High-contrast and large-text modes are available.

We are going to play five friendship games! Chat with your grown-up about kind friends, choose what you could say when you both want the same toy, act out sorry-saying with your teddies, play a taking-turns game, and make up kind rules for your home. Answer on screen and I'll check it, or print the book and play together. There is no wrong way to play — this is all about being kind.

This is a very gentle Reception (EYFS) PSED book about friendship, sharing and taking turns. Sit alongside your child and treat every question as a chat — talk about how each choice would feel before picking. Use teddies for the role-play, play the little turn-taking game for real, and let your child invent your family's kind rules. There is no pass or fail — praise every bit of kindness, waiting and sorry-saying you see, here and in real life afterwards.

A five-play Reception activity book for PSED, working towards the EYFS Building Relationships ELG (with links to Managing Self): identifying kind friendship behaviour, sharing resources fairly, turn-taking and waiting, kind versus unkind words, apologising and repairing, and understanding simple rules and why we have them. Plays 1–3 include a small number of auto-marked best-choice scenarios; Plays 4–5 are practical role-play, game and family-rules tasks. Deliberately warm and non-assessed in tone; suitable for circle-time follow-up or parent-led home use.

Plays 1, 2 and 3 have a few choose-the-kindest-answer questions checked with the "Check my answers" button, which gives friendly, gentle feedback. The teddy role-play, the turn-taking game and the family rules are not marked at all — talk them through with the answer sheet notes and enjoy them together. If an unkind option gets picked, simply chat about how it would feel and try again — that conversation is the learning.

How to study with Friends, Sharing & Taking Turns (EYFS)

This parent guide links the page examples with a practical study routine. The listed resource is labelled Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Early Years (EYFS), Reception, Activity Book. Use that setting, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what successful work should reveal.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to spot the ideas, terminology or method they may need. Scan each sample and spot instruction words, values, signals, constraints or unfamiliar terms. Agree a manageable time window, remove distractions and prepare appropriate tools such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent first attempt so the work reveals secure understanding and uncertainty. A short pause often supports retrieval better than an instant answer.

Make thinking published

Invite the learner to restate the task in their own words. They can underline key information, break a larger problem into smaller steps, sketch a diagram, arrange details, compose a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another method could work. When progress stops, provide a graduated hint: state again the goal, point towards a related example, narrow the choice, then model only the next step. Return control directly afterwards. Spoken reasoning exposes mistakes and practises correct subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with published answer guidance after genuine effort. Inspect more than the final work: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where related. Ask the learner to identify the first point where their reasoning changed course. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or new space, followed by a short account of the change. For a correct answer, request justification and one independent check. This separates confident ideas from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the core idea, process or fact again. Create one small adaptation by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one clear next step, perhaps revisiting terminology, repeating a calculation, adding details or improving clarity. Recheck that target afterwards in the week because spaced review gives better information than instant repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and note answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide supports preparation, discussion and review.
