GCSE Design & Technology Workbook

GCSE Design & Technology Workbook is a five-mission revision activity book mapped to the board-neutral core of the GCSE Design & Technology specifications (AQA, Edexcel/Pearson, OCR and WJEC Eduqas). Students revise the iterative design process, design contexts, briefs and specifications and the 6 Rs of sustainability; classify materials (papers and boards, natural and manufactured timbers, ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, thermoforming and thermosetting polymers, woven and non-woven textiles and smart materials); and compare manufacturing processes and scales of production, mechanical devices, energy generation, electronic systems, ergonomics, CAD/CAM and new and emerging technologies. Knowledge checks are auto-marked on screen, the brief-writing and product-evaluation tasks are open, and the book includes teacher, parent and student notes with high-contrast and large-text SEND-friendly modes.

What you'll learn

  • AQA โ€” Design & Technology
  • Edexcel โ€” Design & Technology
  • OCR โ€” Design & Technology
  • WJEC Eduqas โ€” Design & Technology

Inside this resource

  • 5 printable pages
  • Answer key included

For the student โ€” how to do this

You're going to work through five Design & Technology revision missions — the iterative design process, briefs and specifications and the 6 Rs, materials and their properties, manufacturing, mechanisms, energy and electronics, then writing a brief and evaluating a product. Answer the knowledge checks on screen and I'll check those for you. For the design missions there's no single right answer — use what you've learned and explain your thinking.

For parents and carers

This is a GCSE Design & Technology revision activity book covering the core theory shared by all the main exam boards. The knowledge checks are marked automatically; the final two missions ask your child to write a design brief and specification and to evaluate a real product. Encourage them to justify their choices and to use the correct technical vocabulary.

For teachers and tutors

A five-mission GCSE Design & Technology revision book covering the board-neutral core: the iterative design process, contexts, briefs and specifications, the 6 Rs; material categories and properties; manufacturing processes and scales of production, mechanical devices, energy generation and electronic systems; ergonomics, CAD/CAM and new and emerging technologies. Missions 1–3 include auto-marked knowledge checks; Missions 4 and 5 are open design and evaluation tasks. Suitable for guided revision or independent use.

How to check the work

The knowledge checks in Missions 1–3 are marked together with the "Check my answers" button. The design and evaluation tasks in Missions 4 and 5 are open-ended and are not auto-marked — check them against the answer sheet notes, looking for a measurable specification and evaluation backed by reasons and evidence.
