How to check the work
Ask the learner to show or explain one idea, then try a fresh example with suitable support. Note any prompts needed; retelling alone does not show secure understanding.

How to study with Geometry — Module 2: Area & perimeter
This parent guide connects the page examples with a structured study routine. The current resource is labelled Mathematics, GCSE, Year 10, Year 11, E-Learning Module. Use that setting, the learning summary and published prompts to decide what effective work should show.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus jointly. Ask the learner to predict the ideas, terminology or method they may need. Scan each sample and spot instruction words, amounts, clues, limits or unfamiliar terms. Agree a manageable time window, remove distractions and gather appropriate materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an self-directed first attempt so the response shows secure understanding and uncertainty. A quiet pause often supports remembering better than an instant answer.
Make thinking visible
Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline necessary information, divide a extended problem into shorter steps, sketch a demonstrate, organise details, practise a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another strategy could work. When progress stops, provide a staged hint: rephrase the goal, point towards a relevant example, reduce the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return ownership directly afterwards. Spoken reasoning exposes misconceptions and practises accurate subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with visible answer guidance after honest effort. Inspect more than the final response: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to identify the first point where their reasoning changed direction. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a short note of the change. For a correct answer, request justification and one self-directed check. This separates confident ideas from guessing while building accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the central idea, process or fact again. Create one small alternative by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps returning to terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding details or refining clarity. Recheck that target later in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than instant repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and complete answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide supports preparation, discussion and review.
Sample questions and answers
Try five questions from this exact activity. Review each authored answer and explanation, then note which ideas need another look. Compare the options and explain why the answer fits. Say the reasoning aloud or write a short justification before opening the interactive player to complete the activity and save progress.
Find the area of a rectangle 5 cm by 3 cm.
- 8 cm²
- 15 cm²
- 16 cm²
- 30 cm²
Sample answer: 15 cm²
Explanation: Area = length × width = 5 × 3 = 15 cm².
Find the perimeter of a rectangle 5 cm by 3 cm.
- 8 cm
- 15 cm
- 16 cm
- 30 cm
Sample answer: 16 cm
Explanation: Perimeter = 2(5 + 3) = 16 cm.
Find the area of a triangle with base 8 cm and height 5 cm.
- 13 cm²
- 20 cm²
- 40 cm²
- 80 cm²
Sample answer: 20 cm²
Explanation: Area = ½ × base × height = ½ × 8 × 5 = 20 cm².
Find the area of a square of side 6 cm.
- 12 cm²
- 24 cm²
- 36 cm²
- 42 cm²
Sample answer: 36 cm²
Explanation: Area = 6 × 6 = 36 cm².
