How to check the work
Use any on-screen review after the quiz to discuss one response and a next step. A saved score or time is not a saved mistake-by-mistake report.

How to study with KS1 Design and Technology — KS1 Design & Technology (Years 1-2) — Gated Series — Module 7: Consolidation Test (timed)
This parent guide links the page examples with a usable study routine. The current resource is labelled Design & Technology, Key Stage 1, Year 1, Year 2, Quiz. Use that setting, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what firm work should reveal.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus together. Ask the learner to predict the ideas, vocabulary or technique they may need. Scan each sample and recognise instruction words, values, clues, constraints or unfamiliar terms. Agree a manageable time window, reduce distractions and collect useful equipment such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent first attempt so the attempt reveals firm understanding and doubt. A concise pause often strengthens recall better than an instant answer.
Make thinking shown
Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline necessary information, separate a complex problem into smaller steps, design a model, sort evidence, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another plan could work. When movement stops, give a graduated hint: rephrase the goal, point towards a relevant example, reduce the choice, then model only the next step. Return control straight afterwards. Spoken reasoning highlights mistakes and practises accurate subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, evidence, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to locate the first point where their reasoning changed direction. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a concise account of the change. For a correct answer, request support and one independent check. This differentiates secure ideas from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the main idea, process or fact again. Create one small adaptation by altering a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a comparable question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one clear next step, perhaps returning to terminology, practising a calculation, adding evidence or improving clarity. Recheck that target afterwards in the week because spaced review gives better information than instant repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and capture answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
