How to check the work
Use any on-screen review after the quiz to discuss one response and a next step. A saved score or time is not a saved mistake-by-mistake report.

How to study with KS1 Science (Years 1-2) — Gated Series — Module 7: Consolidation Test (timed)
This parent guide relates the page examples with a usable study routine. The current resource is labelled Science, Key Stage 1, Year 1, Year 2, Quiz. Use that context, the learning summary and published prompts to decide what successful work should show.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to anticipate the knowledge, terminology or plan they may need. Scan each sample and identify action words, amounts, signals, limits or unfamiliar terms. Agree a realistic time window, remove interruptions and prepare suitable equipment such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an unaided first attempt so the attempt reveals firm understanding and doubt. A brief pause often supports recall better than an same-session answer.
Make thinking published
Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline key information, divide a extended problem into smaller steps, draw a demonstrate, sort support, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their method fits and whether another plan could work. When progress stops, offer a staged hint: rephrase the goal, point towards a relevant example, limit the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return ownership immediately afterwards. Spoken reasoning reveals mistakes and practises accurate subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with published answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, support, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to identify the first point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a brief description of the correction. For a correct answer, ask for reasoning and one unaided check. This distinguishes confident knowledge from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the core idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by adjusting a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one specific next step, perhaps revisiting terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding support or refining clarity. Recheck that target later in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than same-session repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and make answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide supports preparation, discussion and review.
