How to check the work
Ask the learner to show or explain one idea, then try a fresh example with suitable support. Note any prompts needed; retelling alone does not show secure understanding.

How to study with KS2 Maths — Module 2: The four operations
This parent guide links the page examples with a usable study routine. The listed resource is labelled Mathematics, Key Stage 2, Year 3, Year 4, E-Learning Module. Use that framework, the learning summary and published prompts to decide what effective work should demonstrate.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus jointly. Ask the learner to anticipate the knowledge, language or strategy they may need. Scan each sample and recognise command words, amounts, hints, conditions or less familiar terms. Agree a focused time window, remove interruptions and collect appropriate materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an self-directed initial attempt so the attempt indicates firm understanding and gaps. A quiet pause often strengthens remembering better than an instant answer.
Make thinking visible
Invite the learner to summarise the task in their own words. They can underline necessary information, separate a complex problem into smaller steps, draw a model, sort details, practise a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another strategy could work. When progress stops, give a graduated hint: state again the goal, point towards a related example, narrow the choice, then model only the next step. Return ownership immediately afterwards. Spoken reasoning highlights misconceptions and practises specific subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with visible answer guidance after honest effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where related. Ask the learner to locate the initial point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a concise description of the change. For a correct answer, request support and one self-directed check. This differentiates secure knowledge from guessing while strengthening accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the central idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a similar question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one specific next step, perhaps returning to terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding details or improving clarity. Recheck that target afterwards in the week because spaced review gives better information than instant repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and make answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
Sample questions and answers
Try five questions from this exact activity. Review each authored answer and explanation, then note which ideas need another look. Compare the options and explain why the answer fits. Say the reasoning aloud or write a short justification before opening the interactive player to complete the activity and save progress.
