This parent guide relates the page examples with a usable study routine. The present resource is labelled Geography, Key Stage 2, Year 3, Year 4, Quiz. Use that framework, the learning summary and published prompts to agree what secure work should reveal.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to predict the knowledge, vocabulary or method they may need. Scan each sample and spot action words, quantities, signals, constraints or less familiar terms. Agree a focused time window, reduce diversions and gather useful materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an unaided initial attempt so the attempt reveals secure understanding and uncertainty. A quiet pause often strengthens retrieval better than an instant answer.
Make thinking published
Invite the learner to summarise the task in their own words. They can underline key information, break a complex problem into individual steps, create a diagram, organise details, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another plan could work. When movement stops, offer a carefully scaled hint: state again the goal, point towards a related example, reduce the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return responsibility straight afterwards. Spoken reasoning exposes misconceptions and practises precise subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with published answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where related. Ask the learner to locate the initial point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a concise note of the correction. For a correct answer, ask for support and one unaided check. This distinguishes confident knowledge from guessing while building accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the central idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps returning to terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding details or refining clarity. Recheck that target later in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than instant repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and complete answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
