KS3 English: Spoken English — Challenge is a greater-depth stretch activity book for Key Stage 3 spoken English, mapped to the DfE National Curriculum. Five demanding challenges push confident learners through subtle rhetorical device analysis, the most formal register and the trickiest Standard English (the subjunctive, agreement with “neither” and “could have”), adapting to audience and purpose with precise discourse markers of concession and counter-argument, and the craft of debating, proposition and opposition, addressing counter-arguments, rebuttal and structure. Challenges 1–4 hold around twenty auto-marked questions; Challenge 5 is an open speaking and debate task — planning a persuasive speech, arguing both sides of a motion and controlling delivery — with a full checklist.
