Light Detective KS2
Light Detective KS2 is a five-mission Year 3/6 science activity book mapped to the DfE National Curriculum for light. Children discover that we need light to see and that dark is the absence of light, sort light sources such as the sun, torch, lamp and candle from objects that only reflect light such as mirrors and the Moon, use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain how we see objects, and investigate how opaque objects form shadows that change size and how mirrors reflect light โ including the vital rule never to look directly at the Sun. Every question is auto-marked on screen, or the whole book can be printed with a full answer key. Includes teacher, parent and pupil notes and is fully SEND-friendly with high-contrast and large-text modes.

For the student โ how to do this
You're going to solve five light missions. Answer on screen and I'll check your science straight away, or print the book and solve it on paper. Take your time โ real detectives look closely before they decide! Remember: never look straight at the Sun.
For parents and carers
This is a KS2 (Year 3/6) light activity book. Sit alongside your child if you can, and use a torch and a few objects to explore light sources, shadows and reflections before answering. A darker room and a favourite toy make brilliant hands-on helpers โ and please remind children never to look directly at the Sun or shine torches into eyes.
For teachers and tutors
A five-mission Year 3/6 activity book covering DfE KS2 light: needing light to see and dark as the absence of light; light travelling in straight lines and how we see objects; distinguishing light sources from reflectors; shadows formed by opaque objects and how they change size; and reflection from mirrors, plus Sun-safety. Missions 1โ4 are auto-marked; Mission 5 is an open home investigation. Suitable for guided or independent use.
How to check the work
Most pages are checked together with the "Check my answers" button, which marks every response and gives feedback. Mission 5 is open-ended and is not auto-marked โ check it against the answer sheet notes.
