Making & Manufacturing KS3
Making & Manufacturing KS3 is a five-mission Year 8 Design & Technology activity book mapped to the DfE National Curriculum for Make. Pupils sort materials into families (woods, metals, polymers and textiles) and learn to tell ferrous from non-ferrous, hardwood from softwood, and thermoforming from thermosetting plastics. They measure and mark out with a ruler, try square and template, name common tools and their jobs (tenon saw, file, bench hook and vice), and choose between temporary fixings such as screws and permanent joins such as glue, solder and welding. They meet accuracy, tolerance and quality control, then plan a safe make using the correct PPE and respecting machine guards. Knowledge checks are auto-marked on screen, the planning tasks are open, and the book includes teacher, parent and pupil notes with high-contrast and large-text SEND-friendly modes.
