How to check the work
Ask the learner to show or explain one idea, then try a fresh example with suitable support. Note any prompts needed; retelling alone does not show secure understanding.

How to study with Number — Module 5: Fractions, decimals & percentages
This parent guide connects the page examples with a practical study routine. The listed resource is labelled Mathematics, GCSE, Year 10, Year 11, E-Learning Module. Use that context, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what successful work should demonstrate.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus together. Ask the learner to anticipate the ideas, vocabulary or method they may need. Scan each sample and recognise action words, amounts, signals, constraints or less familiar terms. Agree a manageable time window, clear diversions and prepare suitable materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent opening attempt so the attempt reveals firm understanding and uncertainty. A short pause often aids retrieval better than an immediate answer.
Make thinking published
Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline key information, divide a complex problem into individual steps, create a representation, organise support, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another strategy could work. When progress stops, give a graduated hint: state again the goal, point towards a relevant example, narrow the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return control straight afterwards. Spoken reasoning exposes mistakes and practises precise subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with published answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, support, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to identify the opening point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a short account of the correction. For a correct answer, request reasoning and one independent check. This separates confident ideas from guessing while strengthening accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the central idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by altering a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps returning to terminology, repeating a calculation, adding support or improving clarity. Recheck that target afterwards in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than immediate repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and note answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide aids preparation, discussion and review.
Sample questions and answers
Try five questions from this exact activity. Review each authored answer and explanation, then note which ideas need another look. Compare the options and explain why the answer fits. Say the reasoning aloud or write a short justification before opening the interactive player to complete the activity and save progress.
