This parent guide links the page examples with a structured study routine. The current resource is labelled Physical Education, Key Stage 2, Year 5, Colour and Observe. Use that context, the learning summary and published prompts to decide what sound work should show.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to recognise the understanding, vocabulary or technique they may need. Scan each sample and recognise instruction words, values, signals, conditions or less familiar terms. Agree a realistic time window, remove interruptions and gather useful materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an self-directed first attempt so the attempt reveals sound understanding and gaps. A short pause often aids retrieval better than an same-session answer.
Make thinking published
Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline essential information, break a complex problem into individual steps, sketch a diagram, organise support, compose a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another plan could work. When progress stops, offer a graduated hint: state again the goal, point towards a related example, reduce the choice, then show only the next step. Return control directly afterwards. Spoken reasoning reveals confusions and practises accurate subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with published answer guidance after honest effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, support, sequence, spelling or presentation where related. Ask the learner to identify the first point where their reasoning changed direction. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or fresh space, followed by a short note of the correction. For a correct answer, ask for reasoning and one self-directed check. This separates assured understanding from guessing while strengthening accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the central idea, process or fact again. Create one small adaptation by adjusting a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one specific next step, perhaps reviewing terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding support or developing clarity. Recheck that target again in the week because spaced review gives better information than same-session repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and capture answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide aids preparation, discussion and review.
