Get the most from this

You're going to watch and interact with an interactive lesson about computing. It should take about 6 minutes. Take your time — there's no rush. If you get stuck, ask a grown-up.

This is an interactive lesson for Key Stage 1 computing — about 6 minutes of focused activity. Your child can watch and interact with this on their own or with you alongside. There's no pressure to finish in one sitting.

Their completion and time on task can be saved to your dashboard when they are signed in.

An interactive lesson aligned to the DfE National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 computing. Use as a standalone activity, a homework task, or a lesson plenary.

Pupils' completion data and time on task flow into the class dashboard so you can see who has finished.

Ask your child to retell what they learned in their own words. If they can summarise the main idea, the lesson landed.

How to study with Computing at Home: A Guide for Grown-Ups

This parent guide relates the page examples with a structured study routine. The current resource is labelled Computing, Key Stage 1, Year 1, Year 2, E-Learning Module. Use that framework, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what successful work should show.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to identify the understanding, vocabulary or method they may need. Scan each sample and identify action words, amounts, clues, conditions or new terms. Agree a focused time window, reduce distractions and collect suitable equipment such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent opening attempt so the attempt indicates secure understanding and gaps. A concise pause often strengthens remembering better than an immediate answer.

Make thinking shown

Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline essential information, break a extended problem into individual steps, sketch a model, organise details, compose a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another method could work. When progress stops, provide a staged hint: state again the goal, point towards a relevant example, limit the choice, then model only the next step. Return ownership straight afterwards. Spoken reasoning reveals misconceptions and practises accurate subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to find the opening point where their reasoning changed course. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a concise note of the correction. For a correct answer, ask for support and one independent check. This differentiates assured understanding from guessing while strengthening accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the core idea, process or fact again. Create one small adaptation by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a similar question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps revisiting terminology, repeating a calculation, adding details or improving clarity. Recheck that target again in the week because spaced review gives stronger information than immediate repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and make answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
