Fast KS1 phonics recall: digraphs, blending, vowel sounds, tricky words and real-vs-alien words. Free, auto-marked practice — try it now!
KS1 English: Phonics & Decoding — Quick Burst is a fast-recall activity book mapped to the DfE National Curriculum for Years 1–2 phonics and decoding. Five short rounds drill quick recall skills — identifying consonant digraphs sh, ch, th and ng, blending sounds to read new words, spotting vowel digraphs ai, ee, oa and oo, reading common tricky (exception) words, and sorting real words from made-up alien words by careful sounding out. Every round is auto-marked on screen with a full answer key, or the whole book can be printed for a timed phonics challenge. Includes teacher, parent and pupil notes and is fully SEND-friendly with high-contrast and large-text modes.
Tip: pinch to zoom on mobile, or use the + / − buttons.
Five fast rounds of phonics practice! Race through digraph sounds, blend words at speed, spot vowel sounds, flash through tricky words, then sort real words from made-up alien words. Answer on screen and I'll check it for you, or print the book and go as fast as you can.
This is a quick-burst KS1 phonics practice (Year 1) — about ten minutes of fast recall. Sit alongside your child and encourage them to say each sound out loud before they answer, especially in Round 5 where careful sounding out is the only way to spot the alien words.
A five-round quick-fire activity book drilling DfE KS1 phonics and decoding: consonant digraphs (sh, ch, th, ng), blending to read new words, vowel digraphs (ai, ee, oa, oo), common exception words, and distinguishing real words from pseudo (alien) words. All five rounds are auto-marked. Ideal as a warm-up or five-minute phonics starter.
Every round is checked with the "Check my answers" button, which marks each response and gives feedback. Typed answers must be spelled correctly to be marked right — compare against the answer sheet for the full worked results.
