KS1 English: Phonics & Decoding — Support

Gentle, scaffolded KS1 phonics support: small steps through digraphs, blending, missing sounds, vowel digraphs and tricky words. Auto-marked — try it!

KS1 English: Phonics & Decoding — Support is a gentle, scaffolded activity book for Years 1–2 phonics and decoding, mapped to the DfE National Curriculum and designed to build confidence one idea at a time. Five friendly steps use simple single-syllable words and worked examples to practise spotting a digraph (sh, ch, th, ng), blending three sounds to read a whole word, segmenting a word to find its missing middle sound for spelling, spotting a vowel digraph (ai, ee, oa, oo), and reading a tricky word by heart. Most questions are multiple choice so the focus stays on the sound, and every step is auto-marked on screen with a full answer key, or the whole book can be printed to work through slowly on paper. The tone is warm and encouraging with no pass or fail language. Includes teacher, parent and pupil notes and is fully SEND-friendly with high-contrast and large-text modes.

These five steps take phonics slowly, one idea at a time, with a worked example on every page. You will spot a digraph, blend a simple word, fill a missing sound, spot a vowel digraph and read a tricky word. Read the tip first, then choose or type your answer — I'll check it with you. There is no rush and no way to fail: just keep trying.

This is a supportive KS1 phonics workbook (Year 1) with simple words and lots of scaffolding, built to grow confidence. Read each worked-example tip together, then let your child choose or type the answer. Keep it calm and positive — praise the effort and the correct sounding out, and come back to the same steps another day. The answer key lets you check every question.

A scaffolded, differentiated-down support book for DfE KS1 phonics and decoding: spotting a single digraph, blending three sounds into a simple word, segmenting to find a missing middle sound, spotting a vowel digraph, and reading a tricky word by heart. One idea per step, simple single-syllable words, mostly multiple-choice inputs and a worked example in every tip, with a deliberately encouraging, no-pass/fail tone. All steps are auto-marked. Ideal for lower-confidence learners or as a first pass before the core Phonics & Decoding Detective book.

Every step is checked with the "Check my answers" button, which marks each response and gives friendly feedback. Most answers are multiple choice; a few ask for a short word to be typed. Compare against the answer sheet for the full worked results, and re-try any step as often as you like.
