How to check the work
Ask the learner to show or explain one idea, then try a fresh example with suitable support. Note any prompts needed; retelling alone does not show secure understanding.

How to study with KS2 French — Module 6: Hobbies & animals
This parent guide relates the page examples with a structured study routine. The current resource is labelled French, Key Stage 2, Year 3, Year 4, E-Learning Module. Use that setting, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what firm work should reveal.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus together. Ask the learner to anticipate the knowledge, vocabulary or technique they may need. Scan each sample and spot instruction words, quantities, hints, constraints or less familiar terms. Agree a focused time window, reduce diversions and collect useful tools such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an unaided initial attempt so the response indicates firm understanding and gaps. A quiet pause often strengthens remembering better than an same-session answer.
Make thinking visible
Invite the learner to restate the task in their own words. They can underline key information, divide a larger problem into individual steps, sketch a model, organise support, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another method could work. When progress stops, give a graduated hint: state again the goal, point towards a relevant example, limit the choice, then model only the next step. Return ownership immediately afterwards. Spoken reasoning reveals misconceptions and practises accurate subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with visible answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final response: review the method, explanation, units, support, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to locate the initial point where their reasoning changed course. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or new space, followed by a concise note of the change. For a correct answer, seek support and one unaided check. This differentiates confident knowledge from guessing while building accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the core idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by altering a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a similar question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one clear next step, perhaps reviewing terminology, repeating a calculation, adding support or refining clarity. Recheck that target again in the week because spaced review gives stronger information than same-session repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and note answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
Sample questions and answers
Try five questions from this exact activity. Review each authored answer and explanation, then note which ideas need another look. Compare the options and explain why the answer fits. Say the reasoning aloud or write a short justification before opening the interactive player to complete the activity and save progress.
