About this resource and curriculum

Children name body parts — head, shoulders, knees and elbows — discover the five senses and which body part does each job (eyes see, ears hear, nose smells, tongue tastes, hands feel), go on a senses treasure hunt around the home, and talk about keeping their body healthy with sleep, washing, and fruit and veg. One play is auto-marked on screen with instant friendly feedback; the rest are hands-on moving, hunting and drawing tasks a grown-up can share, and the whole book can be printed with a full answer key. Gentle and playful with no pass-or-fail tone. High-contrast and large-text modes are available.

Get the most from this

We are going to play five body and senses games! Touch your head, shoulders, knees and elbows, find out which body part sees, hears, smells, tastes and feels, go on a senses treasure hunt, and draw how you keep your body healthy. Answer on screen and I'll check it, or print the book and play with a grown-up — this is just for fun.

This is a very gentle Reception (EYFS) book about the body and the five senses. Sit alongside your child, sing and move together, and try each sense for real — look, listen, sniff, taste a safe snack and touch something soft. Only taste food you give them. Chat about sleep, hand-washing and fruit and veg using your own family routines. There is no pass or fail — praise careful noticing and having a go.

A five-play Reception activity book for Understanding the World, mapped to EYFS Development Matters — The Natural World, with links to Physical Development (health and self-care): naming body parts (head, shoulders, knees, elbows), the five senses and their body parts (eyes see, ears hear, nose smells, tongue tastes, hands feel), a multi-sensory treasure hunt, and healthy habits (sleep, washing, fruit and veg). Play 2 is auto-marked; Plays 1, 3, 4 and 5 are open, practical movement, hunting, drawing and home tasks. Playful and non-assessed in tone; suitable for guided or parent-led use.

Play 2 is checked with the "Check my answers" button, which marks each answer and gives friendly feedback. Plays 1, 3, 4 and 5 are open moving, hunting and drawing tasks that are not auto-marked — check them against the answer sheet notes and enjoy them together.

How to study with My Body & Senses (EYFS)

This parent guide links the page examples with a usable study routine. The current resource is labelled Understanding the World, Early Years (EYFS), Reception, Activity Book. Use that context, the learning summary and published prompts to agree what successful work should show.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus jointly. Ask the learner to predict the ideas, vocabulary or technique they may need. Scan each sample and spot action words, values, clues, constraints or less familiar terms. Agree a manageable time window, remove diversions and gather appropriate equipment such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent initial attempt so the response shows secure understanding and gaps. A reflective pause often aids recall better than an instant answer.

Make thinking shown

Invite the learner to restate the task in their own words. They can underline essential information, break a extended problem into individual steps, sketch a demonstrate, arrange details, compose a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another method could work. When progress stops, give a staged hint: state again the goal, point towards a related example, limit the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return ownership straight afterwards. Spoken reasoning exposes confusions and practises specific subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after honest effort. Inspect more than the final response: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where related. Ask the learner to locate the initial point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a concise account of the correction. For a correct answer, request reasoning and one independent check. This separates confident ideas from guessing while strengthening accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the core idea, process or fact again. Create one small adaptation by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a similar question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one specific next step, perhaps revisiting terminology, repeating a calculation, adding details or developing clarity. Recheck that target afterwards in the week because spaced review gives better information than instant repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and note answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide aids preparation, discussion and review.
