About this resource and curriculum

Study guidance and sample questions

How to study with Feelings faces Activity Challenge Colouring Page

This parent guide relates the page examples with a usable study routine. The listed resource is labelled Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Early Years (EYFS), Nursery, Activity Challenge. Use that context, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what successful work should demonstrate.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus jointly. Ask the learner to predict the understanding, language or technique they may need. Scan each sample and recognise instruction words, quantities, signals, limits or unfamiliar terms. Agree a realistic time window, remove distractions and gather appropriate materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent initial attempt so the response indicates secure understanding and uncertainty. A brief pause often supports recall better than an same-session answer.

Make thinking shown

Invite the learner to restate the task in their own words. They can underline necessary information, separate a larger problem into shorter steps, draw a show, sort details, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another method could work. When progress stops, offer a carefully scaled hint: rephrase the goal, point towards a useful example, narrow the choice, then show only the next step. Return ownership immediately afterwards. Spoken reasoning highlights mistakes and practises accurate subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after genuine effort. Inspect more than the final response: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where useful. Ask the learner to find the initial point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a brief account of the change. For a correct answer, request support and one independent check. This differentiates confident understanding from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the central idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by adjusting a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a similar question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps returning to terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding details or refining clarity. Recheck that target again in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than same-session repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and complete answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide supports preparation, discussion and review.

A short warm-up for this sheet

This public warm-up prepares the Early Years (EYFS) Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) focus on Feelings faces without revealing the protected printable or its answer key. Set aside about 5 minutes for the sheet.

Three activity prompts

Prompt: Colour the picture, then find the special object in the feelings faces scene.
Answer guidance: Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) thinking for Feelings faces: Name the details you notice, label the important parts and explain one connection in your own words. Support the explanation with something visible on the sheet, then ask one question that would deepen the learning.
Prompt: Start with the title words “Feelings faces”. Say what each word suggests in Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), write one question you expect the sheet to explore, and choose three precise words you will try to use in your explanation.
Answer guidance: For this activity challenge, follow the instruction one step at a time and pause before each choice. Point to the part of the sheet that supports your decision, explain the connection to Feelings faces, and revisit any clue that cannot yet be justified.
Prompt: Afterwards, describe one choice you made, one idea you can now explain and one part you would revisit.
Answer guidance: Check the finished response against the original activity instruction. Look for an explained choice, accurate Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) language connected to Feelings faces, and one specific improvement to make next.
