About this resource and curriculum

Study guidance and sample questions

How to study with Feelings faces Activity Challenge Colouring Page

This parent guide links the page examples with a structured study routine. The current resource is labelled Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Early Years (EYFS), Reception, Activity Challenge. Use that setting, the learning summary and published prompts to decide what effective work should show.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to identify the knowledge, terminology or technique they may need. Scan each sample and identify action words, values, signals, conditions or unfamiliar terms. Agree a manageable time window, reduce distractions and gather suitable tools such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent initial attempt so the attempt reveals firm understanding and doubt. A reflective pause often supports remembering better than an immediate answer.

Make thinking visible

Invite the learner to describe the task in their own words. They can underline key information, break a complex problem into shorter steps, make a demonstrate, arrange support, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another strategy could work. When movement stops, offer a graduated hint: state again the goal, point towards a relevant example, limit the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return control immediately afterwards. Spoken reasoning reveals confusions and practises accurate subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with visible answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final attempt: review the method, explanation, units, support, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to locate the initial point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a brief note of the improvement. For a correct answer, seek justification and one independent check. This differentiates confident knowledge from guessing while building accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the main idea, process or fact again. Create one small adaptation by changing a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one clear next step, perhaps revisiting terminology, practising a calculation, adding support or improving clarity. Recheck that target later in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than immediate repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and complete answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide supports preparation, discussion and review.

A short warm-up for this sheet

This public warm-up prepares the Early Years (EYFS) Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) focus on Feelings faces without revealing the protected printable or its answer key. Set aside about 5 minutes for the sheet.

Three activity prompts

Prompt: Colour the picture, then point to one feature that helps you talk about feelings faces.
Answer guidance: Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) thinking for Feelings faces: Name the details you notice, label the important parts and explain one connection in your own words. Support the explanation with something visible on the sheet, then ask one question that would deepen the learning.
Prompt: Start with the title words “Feelings faces”. Say what each word suggests in Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), write one question you expect the sheet to explore, and choose three precise words you will try to use in your explanation.
Answer guidance: For this activity challenge, follow the instruction one step at a time and pause before each choice. Point to the part of the sheet that supports your decision, explain the connection to Feelings faces, and revisit any clue that cannot yet be justified.
Prompt: Afterwards, describe one choice you made, one idea you can now explain and one part you would revisit.
Answer guidance: Check the finished response against the original activity instruction. Look for an explained choice, accurate Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) language connected to Feelings faces, and one specific improvement to make next.
