How to study with EYFS Physical Development — Module 2: Ball skills

This parent guide relates the page examples with a structured study routine. The current resource is labelled Physical Development, Early Years (EYFS), Nursery, Reception, E-Learning Module. Use that context, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what sound work should show.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus jointly. Ask the learner to anticipate the knowledge, language or technique they may need. Scan each sample and spot instruction words, quantities, clues, constraints or less familiar terms. Agree a manageable time window, remove distractions and collect useful equipment such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an self-directed initial attempt so the response shows sound understanding and uncertainty. A quiet pause often supports retrieval better than an immediate answer.

Make thinking shown

Invite the learner to restate the task in their own words. They can underline key information, divide a larger problem into smaller steps, sketch a diagram, organise support, rehearse a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another plan could work. When work stops, provide a staged hint: rephrase the goal, point towards a relevant example, reduce the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return ownership straight afterwards. Spoken reasoning reveals mistakes and practises correct subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after genuine effort. Inspect more than the final response: review the method, explanation, units, support, sequence, spelling or presentation where relevant. Ask the learner to find the initial point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or new space, followed by a brief account of the change. For a correct answer, request justification and one self-directed check. This separates secure knowledge from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the central idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by adjusting a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a similar question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one clear next step, perhaps revisiting terminology, practising a calculation, adding support or improving clarity. Recheck that target later in the week because spaced review gives clearer information than immediate repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and complete answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide supports preparation, discussion and review.

Sample questions and answers

Try five questions from this exact activity. Review each authored answer and explanation, then note which ideas need another look. Compare the options and explain why the answer fits. Say the reasoning aloud or write a short justification before opening the interactive player to complete the activity and save progress.
