About this resource and curriculum

Study guidance and sample questions

Get the most from this

Explore the lesson one part at a time. Pause to try an example, then explain or show what you noticed. Ask for help if you need it.

Explore this interactive lesson together, or let the learner try it independently where appropriate. Pause to talk about an idea or try it in another way.

A lesson view or time spent is not a best quiz score or a saved wrong-answer report. Ask what the learner can show or explain.

Use this interactive lesson to introduce or practise an idea. For England, check the relevant national curriculum programme of study where applicable; a stage label alone does not establish alignment.

A view or elapsed time is engagement information, not evidence of a scored assessment or a list of misconceptions. Check understanding through discussion or an example.

Ask the learner to show or explain one idea, then try a fresh example with suitable support. Note any prompts needed; retelling alone does not show secure understanding.

How to study with KS1 Plants: Interactive Lesson

This parent guide connects the page examples with a structured study routine. The present resource is labelled Science, Key Stage 1, Year 1, Year 2, E-Learning Module. Use that framework, the learning summary and published prompts to clarify what sound work should show.

Prepare a focused session

Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to anticipate the ideas, vocabulary or technique they may need. Scan each sample and recognise action words, amounts, hints, constraints or less familiar terms. Agree a realistic time window, remove diversions and collect useful materials such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an self-directed opening attempt so the response shows sound understanding and gaps. A brief pause often supports recall better than an instant answer.

Make thinking visible

Invite the learner to summarise the task in their own words. They can underline essential information, separate a extended problem into smaller steps, make a demonstrate, sort details, compose a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their route fits and whether another strategy could work. When movement stops, provide a carefully scaled hint: repeat the goal, point towards a useful example, narrow the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return ownership directly afterwards. Spoken reasoning highlights confusions and practises correct subject language.

Check accuracy and understanding

Compare the attempt with visible answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final response: review the method, explanation, units, details, sequence, spelling or presentation where useful. Ask the learner to identify the opening point where their reasoning changed direction. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a brief note of the correction. For a correct answer, ask for support and one self-directed check. This differentiates confident ideas from guessing while strengthening accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.

Consolidate and extend

Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the main idea, process or fact again. Create one small adaptation by altering a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one precise next step, perhaps returning to terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding details or developing clarity. Recheck that target later in the week because spaced review gives stronger information than instant repetition.

The interactive player, downloadable file and make answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide supports preparation, discussion and review.

🐛 Wiggly the Worm has a question!
🪱 Wiggly lives in the soil. He keeps bumping into plant roots. He wonders: "What are these roots actually doing down here?" Let's help Wiggly learn about plants!
Parts of a flowering plant
🌱 A bean plant has roots, a stem and leaves. Later, it can grow flowers: 🟫 Roots — take in water and hold the plant in place. 🪵 Stem — holds the plant up and carries water. 🍃 Leaves — catch sunlight to make food. 🌸 Flower — helps the plant produce seeds. Not all plants have flowers.
What plants need ☀️💧🌫️
☀️💧🌫️🌡️ A growing bean plant needs: ☀️ Sunlight — so leaves can make food. 💧 Water — taken in through its roots. 🌫️ Air — leaves use it to make food. 🌡️ A suitable temperature — not too hot or too cold. Soil can hold water and nutrients and support roots. Some plants can grow without soil if these needs…
