KS1 Mathematics: Addition and Subtraction — Challenge
Stretch KS1 addition and subtraction challenge: mental 2-digit methods, missing-number reasoning, multi-step word problems and an open investigation.
KS1 Mathematics: Addition and Subtraction — Challenge is a greater-depth stretch activity book mapped to the DfE National Curriculum for Year 2. Four demanding challenges push confident learners through mentally adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers, adding three numbers and solving missing-number problems using the inverse, and multi-step word problems involving stickers, pupils, ribbon and money. Challenge 5 is an open investigation into why addition can be done in any order but subtraction cannot, asking learners to find their own examples and write a rule in their own words. Challenges 1–4 hold around sixteen auto-marked questions, and a full worked answer key covers every part, including model answers for the open investigation.
