Gentle, self-marking KS1 science support book on everyday materials, with extra tips and simple vocabulary. Twenty minutes, five steps, print or play.

KS1 Science: Everyday Materials — Support is a gentle, fully auto-marked activity book mapped to the DfE National Curriculum for Years 1 and 2, built for learners who need extra scaffolding. Five short steps, each opening with a friendly tip, cover what a material is, how materials feel and look using simple word pairs, sorting materials into groups, thinking about what materials are used for, and matching the words squash, bend, twist and stretch to how a shape changes. With around sixteen questions, easier vocabulary than the Quick Burst form, and a full worked answer key, it is ideal for building confidence before moving on to faster or more challenging practice.

This gentle book helps you learn about everyday materials one small step at a time. Read the tip at the top of each step before you start, and take your time — there is no rush. Answer on screen and I’ll check it for you, or print the book and work through it on paper.

This is a gentle, self-marking KS1 science book on everyday materials, with extra tips and easier vocabulary than our Quick Burst form. It works well for a learner who is just starting to explore materials, or who needs extra confidence before a topic test. Try handling real objects together as you go — touching a real brick, sponge or scarf makes the words much easier to remember. Allow about 20 minutes.

A scaffolded, fully auto-marked support book for DfE KS1 science, Everyday Materials, pitched below Quick Burst with simpler vocabulary, more scaffolding in each tip, and shorter steps of three questions. Covers naming familiar materials, simple property pairs (hard/soft, rough/smooth, waterproof), sorting, uses, and squash/bend/twist/stretch vocabulary. Useful as a pre-teach, intervention, or same-day catch-up resource.

Every step is checked together with the "Check my answers" button, which marks each response and gives instant feedback. If an answer is wrong, re-read the tip at the top of the step together before trying again.
