This parent guide relates the page examples with a structured study routine. The current resource is labelled Design & Technology, Key Stage 1, Year 2, Vocabulary and Facts. Use that context, the learning summary and published prompts to decide what secure work should demonstrate.
Prepare a focused session
Read the title and learning focus side by side. Ask the learner to identify the ideas, terminology or method they may need. Scan each sample and identify instruction words, quantities, signals, conditions or less familiar terms. Agree a manageable time window, remove distractions and collect suitable equipment such as paper, pencil, ruler, coloured pens, calculator, headphones or a device. Encourage an independent initial attempt so the response indicates secure understanding and uncertainty. A short pause often strengthens retrieval better than an same-session answer.
Make thinking shown
Invite the learner to restate the task in their own words. They can underline necessary information, separate a larger problem into individual steps, draw a demonstrate, organise evidence, practise a sentence or describe a planned method. Ask why their approach fits and whether another plan could work. When movement stops, provide a staged hint: repeat the goal, point towards a related example, limit the choice, then demonstrate only the next step. Return responsibility directly afterwards. Spoken reasoning reveals mistakes and practises accurate subject language.
Check accuracy and understanding
Compare the attempt with shown answer guidance after sustained effort. Inspect more than the final response: review the method, explanation, units, evidence, sequence, spelling or presentation where related. Ask the learner to locate the initial point where their reasoning changed path. Complete corrections actively in a different colour or separate space, followed by a short account of the change. For a correct answer, ask for reasoning and one independent check. This distinguishes secure ideas from guessing while developing accuracy, reflection and careful working habits.
Consolidate and extend
Finish with retrieval from memory. Cover the example and ask for the main idea, process or fact again. Create one small variation by altering a value, condition, example, viewpoint or level of support while keeping the learning focus. Invite the learner to write a related question and supply checking guidance. Record one success and one clear next step, perhaps returning to terminology, rehearsing a calculation, adding evidence or improving clarity. Recheck that target again in the week because spaced review gives better information than same-session repetition.
The interactive player, downloadable file and note answer material retain their existing access controls. The guide strengthens preparation, discussion and review.
