KS1 Reading: Story Vocabulary Flashcards
A 14-card deck. Eleven cards build vocabulary from the story (“gust”, “floated”, “danced”โฆ) with meanings and story context. Three cards introduce the comprehension skills KS1 readers need: predicting, inferring, and retrieving.
"A big gust blew the kite away."
"Down it floated, safe and sound."
"Maya laughed as her kite danced above the trees."
"It got stuck in a tall oak tree."
"Maya took her red kite to the park."
"The wind was strong."
"Don't worry," said Sam.
"I have an idea!"
"They gently pushed the kite."
"Maya hugged Sam."
"You're the best friend ever!"
Use clues from the title and pictures. "I think the kite will get stuckโฆ"
"Maya was sad" โ we infer she really wanted her kite back.
"What colour was the kite?" Look back and find the word "red".
Tap any card to flip it. On phones, swipe sideways for the next card.
