You're going to try 12 times-table questions. They're mostly the 2 times table, the 5 times table, and the 10 times table.

Don't worry if you can't remember them all by heart — every wrong answer will explain the right one, so you learn while you go.

The starter assessment for KS1 times tables. Covers basic recall of 2×, 5× and 10× facts plus recognising odd and even numbers — the statutory KS1 multiplication content (DfE NC Year 2).

Children who pass this are ready for the Main Test. Those scoring below 50% need more repetition first — short daily practice (5 minutes a day) works far better than long weekly sessions for times-table recall.

This is also a useful checkpoint before Year 4, when the statutory Multiplication Tables Check introduces tables up to 12×12. A confident grip on 2, 5 and 10 in Year 2 makes Years 3–4 much easier.

Diagnostic warm-up for the Year 2 multiplication and division programme of study. Question distribution: 5 on direct ×2/×5/×10 recall, 3 on division facts derived from those tables, 4 on odd/even recognition (linked to the 2× table).

Best used as: lesson-starter; pre-MTC readiness check; homework refresh task. Pupils scoring below 70% benefit from arrays and visual representation before progressing — recall without understanding fades quickly.

Auto-marked. The Review screen shows every wrong question with the correct fact and explanation. Pay attention to the pattern of errors: pupils consistently missing 5× facts often need to see them as half of 10×; pupils missing odd/even need work with concrete pairing.
